Week 3, 4, and 5 (JAN12 to FEB 01)

Well not everything goes as planned but you can try. I ended the 2nd week of training with a broken chain. So, first order of business was getting a new chain.

But wait if I am getting a new chain I might as well get that Aero Chainring from Wolf Tooth that I fancy… and the 50-tooth at that, moving up from 46.

Now I run two sets of wheels on my bike. Road wheels and Gravel wheels. The Road wheels have a 10-30 set up and the Gravel Wheel have a 10-36 set up. So that means two sets of chains. I was able to find the 114-link chain at a local shop called Broward Motorsports… and the 120-link chain somewhere else.

Then my SRAM Rival rear derailleur broke. .. hmm….mmm…mmmm. Ok possible upgrade?

I run SRAM AXS using Blips, but my bike is not UDH compatible, but…. but that means my bike is New Old Stock compatible.

And YESSSSS. I managed to upgrade to SRAM Force rear derailleur, Found it at another local bike shop. this time Cycle Limited up in Boca.

The next week I flew out to Colorado to do a little bit of work and back to Fort Lauderdale the next day.

Consistency is difficult to hold right now… but will try… I am working to keep one session that I repeat twice per week. A bike session that focuses on both Power and Threshold.

Week 1+2 (JAN 01 to JAN 11)

I needed to get back into a routine

My birthday is December 29th and this year I will be turning 50. I want to be fit again by the time I am 50. So here it goes… fit by fifty. Using an event as a motivator. Participating in IRONMAN Cozumel on November 22nd.

Starting off slow… trying to get all the hick ups out of the way. Building a weekly routine that includes heavy session on the bike and a morning at the beach.

The heavy session on the bike is on the indoor trainer…. The goal is to improve both my power and my threshold on the bike. I implement something I call the Double Bubble. Something that involves Z4 and Z5 Sessions. (My Z4 and Z5s explained here). It’s about two hours long including Warmup and Cooldown. The Zone 4 sets are 4-minute intervals (like intervals on the running track) and the Zone 5 ranges from 1-minute down to 30 seconds and would be like strength session on the squat rack.

The Beach sessions first hour is a strength session on the beach, the second hour is a triangle swim course in the water with water the conditions give me.

The 2nd week was looking good until I was heading home… as I was heading up the incline of the bridge my bike chain decided to give up on me…
